Is Tige a Good Wake Boat Brand? An Honest Assessment

If you've spent any time on Percy Priest or Old Hickory Lake, you've seen a Tige. It's one of the most popular wake boat brands in Middle Tennessee — and we carry Tige inventory at Bill's Used Boats regularly. But is the brand actually good, or is it just popular? Here's our honest take after years of selling and inspecting them.

What Tige Does Well

Wave quality. Tige's TAPS (Tige Adjustable Performance System) and TAPS 3T system are legitimately excellent. The wave customization is intuitive and the shapes it produces for both surfing and wakeboarding are among the best in the class. Experienced wake surfers consistently rate Tige waves as top-tier.

Fit and finish. Tige builds a visually impressive boat. Interior layouts are well-designed, upholstery quality is good, and the overall package looks and feels premium.

Performance. Tige uses Ilmor and PCM engines depending on model year. Both are solid marine powerplants. On the water, Tige rides and handles well for a wake boat.

Resale value in Middle Tennessee. Because Tige is so popular locally, resale on the Nashville used market is strong. Used Tige boats in Nashville move quickly.

What to Watch on Used Tiges

Ballast systems. Tige's TAPS ballast systems on older models (pre-2015 particularly) can have pump and valve issues. Get a full inspection — fills, drains, and sensors. Repair costs can be significant if neglected.

Tower hardware. Inspect all tower welds, pivot points, and speaker mounts. Towers take abuse from low-clearance areas and years of gear loading.

Engine hours vs maintenance history. A 500-hour Tige with documented service history is a better buy than a 200-hour boat with no records.

Best Used Tige Models

For wake surfing: The R-series (R20, R22, R23) — generous surf wave, comfortable layout, good resale.

For wakeboarding: The Z-series (Z3, Z5) — more aggressive setup for serious wakeboarders.

Best value years: 2014-2018 Tiges hit a sweet spot of modern features and reasonable used pricing.

The Bottom Line

Yes — Tige is genuinely a good wake boat brand. The wave quality, build, and performance are real. The used market in Nashville is strong for them, which both validates the brand and means you need to move quickly when a good one hits the market.
